Kennel Klub News

Hello Pups & Handlers!

2017 is off to a rocking start for the Black Eagle Kennel Klub!  The January Pup Night was VERY well-attended.  We had 55 pups in gear and several handlers.

Partly due to our recent change to Saturdays (and sadly…partly due to the loss of the Centretown Pub in Ottawa) we had a lot of people attend from out of town.  People came from Montreal, Ottawa, Buffalo, Rochester, and from across Ontario.  Not only was the Black Eagle packed, our group also pretty much took over O’Grady’s main floor.

With the loss of CP, the Ottawa pup & handler group Ruff & Tumble lost the venue for their Pup Night.  Until they can find another suitable venue, the BEKK executive is asking all members to please let us know if you have an extra bed, couch, or parking spot you can offer to any Ottawa pups who’d like to come to our event but can’t easily afford a hotel.  If you can help someone out, then please let me (Argo), Ego, or Timbehr know.

January 31 is the deadline for submitting your concept for the new BEKK logo.  Remember the winner will receive $100.00!!!  Please send in your entry ASAP if you haven’t already done so.

The BEKK Executive Committee will meet on February 1st to discuss the Klub’s plans for 2017.  We will be discussing plans for PACK 2017 Weekend, possible changes to our monthly Pup Night, and ideas for new social & educational events for pups & handlers.  We’d like to continue hosting “Sticks & Balls” at Pegasus.  We’d like to help Pup Benny hold another “Games & Gear Night”.  If enough members are interested, then we’d also like to bring back Pup Sprocket’s “Kibbles & Beers” event (where we all just meet up for dinner some place).  If you have any comments, concerns, or ideas that you’d like us to discuss, then please email them to  me at ArgoNBL@Live.ca so they may be added to the meeting agenda.

The BEKK is not designed to make money.  We do not charge for social events or memberships.  PACK Weekend was designed to be revenue-neutral (we only charged attendees as much as we needed to cover our costs).  Thanks to the Black Eagle letting us keep the coat check money and because not everyone who paid for a PACK Brunch used their ticket – the BEKK’s finances are in good shape.  We already have enough to cover the Toronto Pup 2018’s travel fund and our expenses.  We’ve already purchased a leather pup hood which pups may borrow for Pup Night and new wristbands for the coat check.  If you have any ideas for things the BEKK could use, then please let us know so those ideas may be discussed at the meeting as well.

Remember – the Black Eagle Kennel Klub exists to promote a healthy & active pup & handler community.  It is also designed to be a SAFE SPACE for ALL its members regardless of role, race, sexuality, or gender identity.  Our #1 rule is “If you can’t play nicely then you can’t play at all.”  Remember that a pack is only as strong as its weakest member, so each one of us bears the responsibility of building one another up, protecting one another, and keeping the pack united & strong.
